One of the best in this lens series of EF-S lenses is the Canon EF-S 17-85mm. This has been arguably the best lens in the EF-S series. The key design feature is aimed at matching the APS-C Imaging Sensor to that of the image circle. This objective can be achieved by reducing the distance between the focal plane and the rear of the lens, thus decreasing the image circle size.
This has resulted in getting a more cost efficient and reduced weight wide angle lens, thus ensuring a superior image quality, better resolution and contrast over a wide range of focal lengths. These lenses do provide great image quality for an affordable and versatile package.

The EF-S 17-85 mm is a strong performing lens with features like Image Stabilisation for the hand held situations and has been optically optimized for a Digital SLR camera. It also has a ring type USM that has been designed for silent and fast auto focus. It also has a useful addition of full time manual focus in AF mode.
